Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and television actor who was famous for her portrayal as the fierce lawyer Teri Joseph in the Showtime show Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name since she got married. While growing up living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. In an Maryland high school contest at the beginning of her training, she was awarded the title for the best actress. In addition to her work in the theater and in the ballet company, she was also a part of The Washington Ballet Company. The company awarded her a degree in Acting from New York University. Contractor, who was raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai when he was seven, had traveled around the world and experienced various cultures while growing up. She attended boarding schools from the age between 7 and 9 years old in London. Then her family returned in Toronto (Canada) in Canada, where she spent her entire childhood. Contractor was a wonderful student in Toronto and trained as the classical ballet dancer. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts which was a highly specialized high school where she was able to study not only dance, but also drama. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting seriously at age 16 after almost 10 year of dance. As soon as she finished her high school education, she was awarded a full Scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed an MA in Theatre, and also double majored with sociology and psychology. Contractor, who had spent a year in university was invited to audition in an open audition for Pericles, at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadawhich she won the part. After the show ran for 92 times, she was rewarded with praise from the audience. This play was named the top production by Canadian the critics. Contractor accepted an invitation to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. The Conservatory has only 8 men as well as four females get accepted to a course of 20 weeks of classical theater. Contractor was guaranteed a spot for the upcoming season of shows and eventually landed the part in the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
